As you are aware the Eryri National Park Authority has started on the process of preparing a new Local Development Plan for the Eryri National Park local planning authority area i.e. Eryri Local Development Plan 3. The Plan’s intention will be to identify what can be built and where. It will tackle the need and locations for housing, employment, community facilities, retail, open space and other land uses for the period between 2026 and 2041.
In accordance with statutory requirements, it is necessary to follow a series of steps when preparing the Local Development Plan. The ‘Call for Candidate Sites’ process is one of the first steps associated with the Plan preparation. The Eryri National Park Authority want to know about potential suitable sites for development and protection within the Local Planning Authority area. The Authority therefore invite the submissions of Candidate Sites from the public, community groups, developers and landowners for potential inclusion within the Plan.
The ‘Call for Candidate Sites’ Period
The deadline for sites to be received is 11th of May 2026.
It is possible to submit land for consideration to be included within the Local Development Plan for different uses (e.g. housing and employment) or it is possible to offer land for consideration to protect it from development.
How to submit a ‘Candidate Site’
The preferred way to submit a site is to complete the Candidate Site submission form online
https://planning.eryri.gov.wales/policy/eryri-ldp3
In order to complete the form, as well as provide comments on any future Eryri LDP Consultation you will need to create a user account via the link on our website. This can also be done when using the online Candidate Site Proposal Form. If you are a Statutory Consultee and/or have submitted your contact details to receive information about the new Eryri Local Development Plan, then you will need to enter your email address which you have registered with the Authority, and follow the ‘forgot my password’ route, where you will create an account after entering your own password.
The online form enables site proposers to produce and submit a map, obtain constraints information, view guidance notes and upload supporting documentation. If you have difficulty with the process of presenting a site online or wish to receive further guidance, an Officer from the Planning Policy Team will be available to aid and guide you through the process. The Team’s contact details can be found below.
A paper version of the form can be obtained from the following locations: –
at the Authority’s Office in Penrhyndeudraeth,
within the Authority’s Information Centres (during opening times)
Please note that submitting a candidate site does not represent a commitment on the part of the Authority to take sites forward to the Eryri Local Development Plan.
All of the candidate sites submitted will be placed on a candidate site register. The candidate site register will be available to view on the Authority’s website. The names and contact details of the proposer will not be placed on the public register.
Further information and details about the assessment criteria for consideration of sites and guidance notes to complete the forms can be found on the Authority’s website (Call for Candidate sites).
